17 | The Mormon Battalion Trek through San Juan Capistrano

The new Mormon Meeting House commissioned a mural for their property depicting the Mormon Battalion march into San Juan Capistrano. In 1847, the Mormon Battalion, a group of about 500 men, marched more than 2,000 miles from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to San Diego to assist the United States in the war against Mexico. On March 20, 2004, a group of battalion reenactors paraded into San Juan Capistrano as part of the Swallows Day Parade and like the original battalion, they were warmly welcomed.

This mural is about 4 ft x 10 ft and is located at the entrance to the Meeting House at 29273 Stallion Ridge Road near San Juan Hills High School. It was commissioned by the Meeting House to meet the Depiction Policy of the City.
